Background of the Study:
Online forums have become essential venues for discussing public health issues by offering accessible, interactive platforms for knowledge exchange. In Osogbo Local Government, Osun State, these forums facilitate dialogue among health professionals, policymakers, and the general public, allowing for the dissemination of information on disease prevention, health promotion, and wellness practices (Balogun, 2023). The interactive nature of online forums enables users to share personal experiences, ask questions, and receive advice from experts, which is particularly important in times of public health crises. Moreover, these platforms have contributed to building community resilience and promoting preventive health behaviors by providing real-time updates and debunking health-related myths (Igbinedion, 2024). However, challenges such as the spread of misinformation, lack of moderation, and varying levels of health literacy among participants may affect the overall quality and reliability of these discussions. As digital technology continues to shape public health communication, it is critical to assess how online forums are used to enhance public understanding and participation in health matters in Osogbo Local Government (Adeniyi, 2023).
Statement of the Problem:
While online forums have the potential to improve public health discussions, the effectiveness of these platforms in Osogbo Local Government is not well understood. Misinformation and inconsistent participation could undermine public trust and health outcomes. It is necessary to investigate whether these digital spaces contribute positively to public health education and community engagement (Balogun, 2023).
Objectives of the Study:
To appraise the influence of online forums on public health discussions in Osogbo Local Government.
To identify the challenges and benefits of using online forums for health communication.
